In March 2009 Dan was laid off work and looking for a job. With a soft job market we prepared for the worst; selling the house and moving from Tennessee to Dan's home town of Baldwin City, Kansas. After the garage sale and the realtor telling us that we would give our home away (considering the depressed housing market) we chose to dig in and stay put. We started looking for something we could make and sell. We have a garage filled with woodworking machinery that has been sitting idle for several years. Dan came across a cookie mold woodworking plan from a 1992 Better Homes and Gardens Wood Magazine. He soon made his first one and then made enough to fill a shoebox. Our first cookies from the molds were hard as bricks...Good, but rock solid. We started looking into the history of wood cookie molds and discovered that not many people today make the molds. Most are very old antiques from the "Father Land" Germany or of European origin. We were blessed to find Gene Wilson's web site. Cookie molds and stamps of all kinds. We decided to try our hand at making molds that are more of an American style....something that was new, fresh and would resonate with Americans. We love to visit the ocean and vacation in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and because of that we came up with a nautical theme consisting of star fish, sand dollars, anchors and sea shells. The first ones were beautiful and, with slight modifications to the molds, they made great cookies. Our next challenge was to create designs for Christmas. Soon we started making the Christmas tree, snowman, bells and the Christ star. The molds were selling by word of mouth and then sales improved when we established this website in 2009.
